The National Association of University Students (NAUS) has taken a significant step in promoting community safety and security by endorsing Gateway Shield, a cutting-edge community safety and intelligence platform. This innovative platform is currently fully integrated and deployed in Ogun State Police Command, and NAUS is urging the Inspector General of Police to mandate its adoption across all state commands.
This groundbreaking initiative represents a transformative leap in community policing, harnessing the power of technology, data, and citizen participation to foster a safer, more secure environment for all. By leveraging the capabilities of Gateway Shield, citizens can play a more active role in reporting incidents and collaborating with law enforcement agencies to prevent and combat crime.
Comr. Dr. Meshach Iyanuoluwa Nwankwo (DVM), Deputy National President (National and Campus Affairs) and a leading aspirant for the position of NAUS National President, announced this strategic partnership following a high-level meeting with the founder and initiator of Gateway Shield, Hon. Ayo Ogunlowo, held in Abuja on Friday, 3rd April, 2026. Comr. Dr. Meshach Nwankwo praised Hon. Ayo Ogunlowo for his visionary leadership and commitment to improving community safety.
"Gateway Shield is a game-changer in the fight against crime and insecurity," Comr. Dr. Meshach Nwankwo said. "It empowers citizens to take ownership of their safety and security, and provides law enforcement agencies with the tools and resources they need to effectively prevent and respond to incidents."
The platform's features include real-time incident reporting, safety trend tracking, photographic and video evidence upload, SOS alerts, and instant notifications, all while maintaining the option for anonymous reporting via web, mobile app, or SMS. With Gateway Shield, citizens can report incidents and track the response progress in real-time, promoting transparency and accountability.
The National Leadership of NAUS is calling on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, to mandate the adoption of Gateway Shield across all state commands, emphasizing the platform's potential to revolutionize community policing and improve security outcomes.
NAUS remains committed to exploring strategic partnerships like this one, ensuring that students and citizens are protected from intimidation, harassment, and oppression. The association will be taking its advocacy efforts to the next level, engaging with stakeholders and policymakers to drive the adoption of Gateway Shield nationwide.
The endorsement of Gateway Shield is a testament to NAUS' dedication to promoting student welfare and community safety. As the association continues to push for the adoption of this innovative platform, it is expected that more states will follow suit, leading to a safer and more secure Nigeria for all.
NAUS will be embarking on a comprehensive sensitization tour across the six geopolitical zones, engaging with students, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the benefits of Gateway Shield and promote its adoption.
