A Lagos-based woman, Osarobo Odigie, has sued popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, aka Peller, for allegedly defaming and cyber harassing her. The lawsuit stems from a confrontation at Folixxx Lounge in Lagos, where Peller allegedly verbally abused Odigie and recorded a video of her without consent.

The incident occurred on January 6, 2026, when Odigie was at the lounge to purchase food. Peller allegedly confronted her, used abusive language, and recorded a video of her without permission. The video was later shared on social media platforms, sparking widespread criticism and allegedly leading to harassment and cyberbullying directed at Odigie.

Odigie's lawyers, FA Garrick & Co., have accused Peller of using abusive language, including Yoruba curses, and recording the confrontation without her permission. They are seeking a public apology, removal of the video from all social media platforms, and notification of third-party blogs and platforms where the video may have been reposted.

Peller had earlier apologized publicly to Odigie, admitting that his reaction was out of character and expressing regret for his conduct. However, Odigie's lawyers argue that the apology is insufficient and are pressing ahead with the lawsuit.

The lawsuit has sparked concern about the spread of misinformation and cyber harassment on social media. Many are calling for greater accountability and fact-checking, especially for public figures with large online followings.

Odigie's lawyers have demanded N395m in damages, including N200m for defamation, N100m for emotional trauma, and N75m for cyberbullying. They are also seeking N20m to cover legal fees and related costs.

The case highlights the importance of respecting individuals' privacy and dignity, especially in public spaces. It also raises questions about the responsibility of social media influencers and the impact of their actions on their followers.

Peller's team has been given seven days to comply with the demands, or face legal proceedings. The outcome of the lawsuit is eagerly awaited, with many Nigerians weighing in on the issue.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for responsible social media use and the importance of respecting others' rights and dignity online.
