NANS JCC Edo Axis Condemns Brutal Assault at Igbinedion Secondary School, Demands Accountability

By Adesakin Adefemi

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) JCC Edo Axis has expressed outrage and condemnation over a disturbing video showing a student of Igbinedion Secondary School brutally assaulting a fellow student. The incident, which has sparked widespread concern, is deemed barbaric, disgraceful, and unacceptable in any educational institution.

In a statement signed by Comr. Yakubu Peter Odion, Executive Chairman, NANS JCC Edo State Axis, NANS emphasized that schools should be safe havens for students to learn and grow, not places where they are subjected to violence and intimidation. The statement was released on March 14, 2026. NANS is particularly disturbed that the incident occurred within the school premises without immediate intervention from security personnel, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of the school's security structure.

NANS' condemnation comes as a response to the glaring lack of accountability and swift action against those responsible for the assault. NANS demands a thorough investigation and action against the perpetrator, beyond just expelling the student involved. NANS stresses that the physical and psychological wellbeing of the victim is a top priority and calls for decisive action to address bullying and violence in Nigerian schools.

NANS will be paying an official visit to Igbinedion Secondary School to engage with the management and ascertain the full details surrounding the incident. They will also ensure the bullied student receives necessary medical care and attention. This move has been welcomed by students, parents, and educators, who are calling for stricter measures to prevent bullying in schools.

The incident has sparked a heated debate about the safety and wellbeing of students in Nigerian schools. Many are questioning the effectiveness of current measures in place to prevent bullying and violence. NANS' intervention is seen as a step towards creating a safer learning environment, but more needs to be done to address this pressing issue.

NANS' stance has been praised by stakeholders, who commend NANS for taking a strong position against bullying and violence. The incident highlights the need for schools to prioritize student safety and wellbeing, and for authorities to take concrete actions to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the investigation unfolds, NANS remains committed to protecting students' rights, dignity, and welfare. NANS will continue to demand accountability wherever students' safety is threatened, and work towards creating a safe and conducive learning environment for all.

The incident serves as a wake-up call for Nigerian schools to take a proactive approach in addressing bullying and violence. NANS' efforts are a step in the right direction, but a collective effort is needed to eradicate this menace and ensure that schools become safe havens for all students.

The nation watches with keen interest as this story unfolds, and many are calling for justice for the victim and action against those responsible.
