WHO IS SEBIOTIMO?* *A Name. A Principle. A Standard*.

In Yoruba parlance, names are never accidental. They are philosophy wrapped in identity. They are history distilled into sound. They are instruction disguised as heritage.

*“Sebiotimo”* is drawn from a timeless Yoruba proverb often interpreted as *“Cut your coat according to your cloth.”* At its heart, it speaks of prudence, discipline, moderation, focus and living within honest means. It is a cultural reminder that dignity is preserved not by extravagance, but by responsibility and respect.

But in this defining moment for public service, Sebiotimo is more than a proverb; it is a governance principle.

It means:

*Spend public funds wisely and judiciously.*

*Prioritise essentials over excess.*

*Protect the common purse.*

*Ensure that what is budgeted is what is delivered.*

*Serve without exploiting the system.*

And fittingly enough, this is the name borne by Joshua Olakunle Sebiotimo, ESQ.

*The Man Behind the Name*

Joshua’s journey reflects discipline, patience, and purpose.

From Victory Nursery & Primary School to Aquinas College, Akure, his early years were shaped by modest beginnings and structured learning. Though his academic journey experienced delay after secondary school, that pause did not break him, it built him.

He first gained admission to study English at the University of Ado Ekiti (now Ekiti State University), refining his command of language and communication skills that today sharpen his advocacy. Yet his deeper calling was justice. That conviction led him to pursue Law at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, where he earned his LL.B.

He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja Campus, obtaining his BL and qualifying for legal practice. Not satisfied with ordinary qualification, he further strengthened his intellectual foundation at the University of Ibadan, earning a Master’s Degree in Law.

His National Youth Service in Cross River State saw him posted to Akpabuyo Local Government, where he later became CDS President (Legal Aid), demonstrating leadership even in service.

His legal career was not hurried, it was seasoned. From Mark Obi & Associates in Calabar to practice in Abuja, then seven formative years at A.A. Ojopagogo & Co. in Akure, Joshua built depth, patience, and courtroom credibility before establishing Sprint Law Firm (Sebiotimo Chambers).

Beyond the courtroom, his leadership qualities were further tested and proven within the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), particularly NBA AKURE SUNSHINE BAR where he served meritoriously and still serves in different capacities; first as Social Secretary and now as the branch Secretary.

As Social Secretary, he fostered unity and strengthened professional camaraderie within the Bar. As Secretary, he demonstrates administrative competence, organisational discipline, record-keeping precision, and transparent coordination of the Association’s affairs.

These roles are not ceremonial; they require trust, accountability, and the ability to manage diverse professional interests, qualities that underscore his preparedness for higher legislative responsibility.

He did not inherit influence.

He built capacity.

He earned trust.

*Sebiotimo as a Governance Philosophy*

In public office, many see opportunity.

Sebiotimo sees responsibility and service.

Where others may chase allowances, he speaks of accountability.

Where others may prioritise self, he speaks of service and selflessness.

Where others may exploit budgets, he speaks of prudence and accountability.

“Sebiotimo” in public leadership means:

*Prudence*

Governance must reflect fiscal discipline. Public funds are sacred, not personal. Projects must align with genuine community priorities, not inflated ambitions.

*Transparency*

Citizens deserve clarity. Decisions must be explainable. Allocations must be traceable. Representation must be accountable.

*Selfless Representation*

Office is not a business venture. It is a trust. True leadership places community welfare above personal enrichment.

*Qualitative Advocacy*

A representative must understand the law, scrutinize policies intelligently, and defend constituency interests competently.

*Integrity Woven into Identity*

The earlier visual themes associated with Sebiotimo: Integrity, Accountability, Visionary Thinking, Collaboration, Empathy are not decorative slogans. They are extensions of the name itself.

Integrity ensures trust.

Accountability sustains credibility.

Vision gives direction.

Collaboration builds consensus.

Empathy humanises power.

Together, they form the architecture of responsible leadership.

*Why the Name Matters Now*

In a time when citizens demand:

Transparent budgeting

Honest representation

Responsible spending

Measurable impact

Leaders who fear public judgment

The name Sebiotimo becomes profoundly relevant.

It reassures market women that public funds will not disappear.

It reassures youths that empowerment will not be politicised.

It reassures elders that tradition and dignity will be respected.

It reassures professionals that governance will be thoughtful, not reckless.

Sebiotimo means measured ambition, not reckless politics.

It means service before self.

It means representation with restraint and responsibility.

*You Should Know That:*

Joshua Olakunle Sebiotimo, ESQ, is not merely bearing a culturally rich name, he is living its instruction.

In him, “Sebiotimo” evolves from proverb to practice.

From cultural wisdom to legislative philosophy.

From identity to accountability.

Because when leadership is guided by prudence, transparency, and selflessness, the people are protected, progress becomes sustainable, and governance regains its moral weight.

Sebiotimo is not just who he is.

It is how he intends to serve.
