NANS Launches Historic Three-Day Educational Trip to Nigerian Conservation Foundation
By Adesakin Adefemi
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced its maiden three-day educational trip to the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), scheduled for March 26–28, 2026, at the Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos State. Themed “Beyond the Classroom: Education in the Wild — Learning from Nature While Exploring Conservation in Action,” the initiative aims to deepen environmental education, strengthen leadership consciousness, and promote practical learning among Nigerian students.
This groundbreaking program is expected to attract participants from across the country, marking a significant milestone in student engagement with environmental issues. It represents NANS’ first structured attempt to institutionalize environmental learning within the student movement.
According to NANS, the program represents a strategic intervention at a time when climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation are reshaping national and global realities. Hosted by Comrade Alao John, NANS Presidential Spokesperson, the initiative underscores his commitment to youth leadership development, environmental sustainability, and national progress.
He described the program as a milestone in redefining student engagement with environmental issues, emphasizing its potential to inspire a new generation of eco-conscious leaders. His leadership highlights the importance of youth-driven solutions to Nigeria’s environmental challenges.
The educational trip will feature guided field experiences and ecological exploration, allowing students to connect directly with nature. Participants will walk through one of Nigeria’s most iconic conservation sites, gaining firsthand knowledge of biodiversity.
Expert-led lectures and policy discussions will form a core part of the program, alongside interactive sessions on biodiversity conservation, climate action, and sustainable development training. These sessions aim to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with leading conservation experts, gaining hands-on experience in environmental stewardship and learning about innovative solutions to pressing ecological challenges. Leadership development sessions will focus on environmental advocacy, preparing students to champion sustainability in their communities.
NANS emphasized that the overarching objective is to nurture environmentally conscious student leaders who can translate knowledge into advocacy, policy engagement, and measurable impact on campuses and beyond. The Association described the initiative as a bold step toward institutionalizing structured environmental learning within the Nigerian student movement.
The program’s significance extends beyond the student community, as it highlights the critical role of young people in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development. By providing a platform for students to engage with environmental issues, NANS aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and stewardship among Nigerian youth.
