Gwagwalada, FCT — Comrade Kasim Mohammed has clinched victory in the Gwagwalada Area Council election, marking a significant milestone in local politics after six years of grassroots engagement. His win, hailed as a turning point for development, reflects a deep connection with residents and a commitment to people-centered governance.

In a statement issued by Comrade Anzaku, General Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), he highlighted the remarkable triumph. “This victory is a testament to Comrade Kasim’s unwavering commitment to grassroots politics and his deep connection with the people of Gwagwalada,” Anzaku said, adding that it signals a new chapter of people-focused leadership in the council.

Known for his hands-on approach, Hon. Kasim built a reputation for stopping to greet young people on the streets, often offering encouragement and financial support. He emphasized people-centered politics, saying, “What we leave the house with will always finish on the road,” a mantra that resonated with many supporters and became a hallmark of his campaign.

Despite setbacks, including an unjust suspension from his party after a contentious primary where he garnered over 200 votes out of 300 before delegates from Zuba and Ikwa could vote, Kasim’s resolve never wavered. His loyalty to then-Chairman Obama Denze and consistency in politics earned him steadfast support from allies and grassroots networks.

Comrade Anzaku Shedrack Ovye highlighted the role of key individuals and groups in securing the win, including NANS FCT comrades and senior leaders who mobilized support across wards and polling units. Special appreciation was extended to Iamyinka Ade, wife of the Chairman Elect, for ensuring ballot safety, and to hefty men in suits strategically positioned to protect votes.

Young comrades like Solomon Anibe Atabor and Kepstone Humphery canvassed and voted, while leaders like Shettima Unimaid Big J and PDP Youth Leader Kwara Odunjo Adio made crucial calls to rally support. The campaign’s final days saw intense physical mobilization, with supporters relocating to Gwagwalada for a last-minute push, including door-to-door outreach.

At night, they moved to INEC, where they encountered media shakers like Comrade Muhammad Isah Hassan, who amplified their message. The victory, described as “dedicated to God, his Hardworking Team, and the People of Gwagwalada,” marks the beginning of a new era of governance.

Supporters express optimism about Kasim’s leadership, expecting good governance and development, particularly in youth empowerment, infrastructure, and social services. As Kasim assumes office, expectations are high for him to deliver on promises, with plans already underway for community consultations and project rollouts.

Political analysts say Kasim’s victory could reshape local politics in Gwagwalada, setting a precedent for grassroots-driven leadership and potentially influencing future elections across the FCT. Residents eagerly await the implementation of his campaign promises, hopeful that his tenure will bring lasting positive change.
