PDP's Wike-Backed Faction Scores Victory as Court Upholds Legitimacy, Urges Party Unity

The Nyesom Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed a landmark Federal High Court ruling affirming its legitimacy as the party’s rightful leadership, amidst a protracted internal crisis.

In a statement, the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led PDP Caretaker Committee appealed for calm and urged all party members to rally behind the court's decision, emphasizing the importance of unity, reconciliation, and strict adherence to the party's constitution and due process.

The court's ruling, delivered by Justice Uche Agomoh, nullified the PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025, and barred Kabiru Turaki (SAN) and others from posing as national officers of the PDP.

The judge affirmed that the Caretaker Committee, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, remains the only recognised National Working Committee of the PDP until a valid National Convention is conducted, dealing a significant blow to the Turaki-led faction.

The Wike-backed faction welcomed the ruling, describing it as a triumph for the rule of law, constitutionalism, and internal party democracy, and reiterated its commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the party.

The PDP governors had thrown their weight behind the Ibadan convention, which elected Turaki and other NWC members for a four-year term, but the Wike-aligned faction had disputed the outcome, leading to the ongoing legal battle.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has maintained a neutral stance, refusing to recognise either faction, while multiple court cases continue to determine the party's leadership and future ahead of the 2027 elections.

As the PDP navigates this challenging period, the Wike-backed faction has extended an olive branch to aggrieved members, urging them to put aside their differences and work towards building a stronger, more united party, as the court ruling marks a new chapter in the party's history.

The outcome of this development is being closely watched by stakeholders, with many hoping for a peaceful resolution that will enable the PDP to regroup and refocus on its core mission.
