A Magistrate Court in Sagamu, Ogun State, has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, to February 25, 2026.
The accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, involved a collision between the Lexus SUV driven by Kayode and a stationary truck, resulting in the fatalities of Ayodele and Ghami, who were reportedly associates of Nigerian-born boxer Anthony Joshua.
Kayode, 46, is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver's license, contrary to the provisions of the Road Traffic Act. He was granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties.
The prosecution, led by Richard Nigiwe, requested the adjournment to enable them to duplicate the case file and submit it to the Attorney General's office for advice, citing the absence of a key witness. The defense counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, objected to the request, arguing that the prosecution had sufficient time to prepare their case.
The court, ruling in favor of the prosecution, adjourned the trial to February 25, 2026, to allow for the completion of the necessary legal procedures. The case has generated significant public interest, with many awaiting the outcome of the trial.
The deceased, Ayodele and Ghami, were reportedly paid tribute by Anthony Joshua and his family, who visited a funeral home in Lagos to express their condolences. A funeral prayer service was also held at the London Central Mosque prior to the repatriation of their remains.
The Ogun State Police Command had initially remanded Kayode in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions. The next hearing is scheduled for February 25, 2026.
